Welcome to Michigan Family Voices

Michigan Family Voices Logo

Michigan Family Voices is a grassroots collaborative that exists to identify and mobilize current and new family member and individual leaders to create a network across the state that will impact and effect positive change in policy. The group will create and maintain a statewide network of leaders to inform, build relationships with and/or work in partnership with decision-makers at all levels.

Michigan Family Voices will be partnering with the Brain Injury Association of Michigan and several other organizations to host Civic Engagement Day” on March 22, 2018 in Lansing. Civic Engagement Day is designed to educate and inform individuals, their families, caregivers and professionals on how to advocate for themselves and the people for whom they provide care and assistance. It is designed for everyone in health care, mental health and disability communities. The event is free. Participants will visit members of health and disability related committees, committee meetings to observe legislation in action, tour the capitol and be recognized in the gallery by the House of Representatives. Flyers will be distributed soon. In the meantime for more information contact Lisa Cook-Gordon at (800) 292-7851 ext 427

URGENT! Action Alert from Arc Michigan

The following downloadable action alert is from Alan Bolter of the Michigan Association of Community Mental Health Boards. The language and information are relevant. It also suggests that, if the legislature does insist on pilots or demonstrations, they need to include certain protections for enrollees and adequate evaluation of the pilots. Please use as you see fit, but most of all continue your advocacy. Mental Health supports and services should remain under public authority, not privatized or “profitized”. Thank you, Dohn Hoyle, The Arc Michigan Director of Public Policy.
